Scientific Programme
Paris 2010 : A congress packed with information !
This year, the scientific committee for the Paris 2010 AFVAC Congress has designed a general programme based largely on the importance of daily practices : “chronic, rebellious, and recurrent” will be the key words for the event, during which all participants will take a closer look at day-to-day situations that pose a multitude of problems for veterinarians. The conferences will be scheduled in modules. Within these modules will be a mix of “state of the art” presentations and shorter “zooms” focusing on particular issues in diagnosis or therapeutics. Certain modules will be characterized by a more disciplinary approach : cancer recurrence, feline uronephrology / chronicity ; others will address specific kinds of problems including therapeutic choices, how to design long-term treatments, or antinomic and rebellious disorders. In addition, some modules will provide updates on illnesses such as atopy, or various symptoms (chronic cough in dogs). Whatever the topic, all of the modules will encourage additional interactions and longer dialogues among participants (doctors, surgeons, imaging specialists, behaviourists...). One module (chronic joint pain) will even include a round table for the attendees. All speakers, chosen for their vast scientific knowledge and strong pedagogical skills, will present conferences on their own or in pairs, placing specific emphasis on prior experiences and current, accurate data.
The conferences of the general programme will take place in two rooms simultaneously, while other categories of presentations will be given in rooms nearby. These will include:
- Workshops prepared by the various AFVAC study groups. This is a new offering for 2010, entirely designed by the study groups : 90 minute workshops with 2 moderators each, for a maximum of 40 participants. The topics addressed may relate to the overall congress theme (chronic otitis, cancer relapse), or they may be different subjects altogether (proteinuria, neonatal mortality). Each group will express its own creativity with the topics and the different structures of each workshop : clinical procedures and cases, current events, and forums for discussion. The groups will all be there to hear from the participants as well.
- Short communications, sources of original data, an opportunity to discover research as presented by the authors ;
- A forum for interns and residents with veterinarians dedicated to fostering progress
in their profession, all looking towards the future of scientific knowledge ;
- Symposiums, ideal moments for exchanges and summaries, organised by the Scientific Committee (addressing a wide range of topics including the new care pathway, animal protection, radiography equipment, and antibiotherapy). Certain symposiums may also be organised by the main partners of the Congress ;
- And finally, a veterinary nurse programme to promote the well-being and proper training of veterinary nurses in animal hospitals and clinics ;
- And two modules specifically designed for (and with the assistance of) our AFVAC juniors.
The variety of presentations appearing at the Paris 2010 Congress should allow everyone to “customize” the experience, according to individual needs and desires. Feel free to follow the main themes or to explore the mix of offerings...and enjoy the Congress !
